The game Missing Dune for Nintendo Game Boy Advance will be launched after 20 years
An unfinished video game of Dune has a second chance in life thanks to The Retro Room Games. Dana de Frank Herbert: Assault of the Ornithopter was a game of Game Boy Advance with official license that began his life in 2001. Originally developed by Soft Brigade, the game was completed basically in 2002, but was canceled as a result of financial difficulties for the editor Cry Interactive. They have spent 20 years, but The Retro Room Games has ensured the rights of the title, without Dune's license. The game has been renamed as LAND: the glass wars, and all Dune references are being eliminated from the game, which makes it a completely new IP.
A Kickstarter campaign for the game is live and already reached its goal, surpassing the $7,563 necessary to complete the game. That means you will receive a launch in a cartridge compatible with Game Boy Advance, along with a retro box and a manual. At the time of writing these lines, the campaign amounts to $9,165, with 50 days for the end. There are several ambitious objectives, including a brief documentary with members of the original and current development teams, a PC port, additional content and more.
You can find an advance that details the Kickstarter and shows the game on the Tweet embedded below.
As readers can see in advance, Leland: crystal wars, is a first-person air combat game that takes place on a desert planet. The game presents 20 missions in total, assigning players a series of different objectives, which include eliminating enemy locations, escorting other ships and more.
It is always interesting to see that the canceled games charge a new life! Developers dedicate an incredible amount of time and effort to these titles, and it has to be discouraging to see that an almost finished game is discarded at the last minute. ELAND: The crystal war is not the first example that we have seen of this, but thanks to the work of The Retro Room and the sponsors of Kickstarter, the finish finally will see the light. Readers interested in watching the game Kickstarter can do so. Right here.
